Who are Epoch Music?
Epoch Music is a musical exploration creative duo comprised of colleagues, and mates, Sam Marks and Rory Chenoweth. After great rumination and preparation, Epoch Music formed in 2021 with the goal of providing exceptional musical solutions for Video Games, Film, and TV.
Though their individual classical and technical training provide a great framework for comprehension, Sam and Rory believe music should come from a place of purity and exploration, rather than rules and formulas.
Rory's music is an eclectic blend of genres influenced by emotion, story, and for the most part happy accidents. He started out as a young guitarist inspired by the pioneers of shred, slowly venturing into classical music, film music, experimental modernist music, electronic music and sound design.
Rory has worked on numerous network televisions shows, short films, documentaries and feature films. Some of his most recent work was featured in Australia's highest rating television show with over 1 million viewers on average. He has been nominated for an APRA screen music award for best music in a short film 2019, and the recipient of the 2017 AFTRS Glories of the score 'Best Original Music' for a short film.
With his many musical aptitudes, Sam isn’t afraid to deftly weave varying influences into his sound. Having a strong and eclectic background in music, Sam is able to comfortably oscillate between sounds and styles when approaching a score to find the most compelling, yet interesting, solution. Sam has most recently composed 40 music library tracks for a BBC program.
Sam is always passionately eager to grow as a musician and is currently exploring the world of Gypsy Jazz Guitar under Stephane Wrembel (Midnight In Paris).
Sam Marks is a recipient of a Bachelor of Music Studies from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, a Bachelor of Audio Engineering from SAE Institute Sydney, two high intensity three-month Berklee Online Music for Film and TV courses, and has played in multiple rock bands during the past decade. Since starting his own indie rock venture in 2020, Marks’ solo releases have seen support from Triple J, MTV, Triple J Unearthed, Aus Music Scene, The AU Review, AAA Backstage, and more.
Epoch Music was nominated for a 2024 APRA Screen Music Award for best music in a Video Game.
